So, does the image of slowly losing my appendages, one by one, to the ravages of uncontrolled blood sugar.
That leaves me with diet and exercise to work with, to control my disease.
My exercise is usually walking, some free weights at home, and yoga. Nothing too outrageous.
This blog will be mostly about diet.
You may have noticed that there is a whole universe out there of conflicting diabetic advice. The only way that I came up with to sort it all out was by using trial and error ( and some very useful books, in hindsight). I let my blood glucose meter be the judge of what worked for me… and what did not.
It’s been a very complex puzzle to put together. The puzzle pieces interact and make the challenge even more dynamic. However, over ten years, my personal diabetic solution IS taking shape. Your puzzle’s picture will look similar, but it won’t be identical. For example, a diabetic friend swears that bananas work for him. For me, bananas are death!
The ideal diet for me is low carb, low on the glycemic index, gluten free and even Anti-inflammatory. Think Paleo Diet or Mediterranean Diet. Vegetarian Diets work extremely well, but I personally enjoy a good steak every now and then.
Please note that I can give NO medical advice. I am really just a diabetic electrician. An electrician who knows how to research, test, measure and log the results…and get creative with diet experiments.
May you gain better health from my efforts!
